11NOV12: I called Artisan Flooring on the recommendation of a friend. The owner, Duane Dorn, came to my house, measured the rooms and helped me decide what materials to use. He said that in approximately 3 weeks the wood would be delivered to my house and it would “rest” there for 3 days to acclimate to the environment. The installation would begin on the fourth day, and was estimated to be completed by the 9th. day. All this happened just as indicated. The first day was mostly for tear-out of the old flooring, with installation on that day and the next two. Stain was applied on the next day, and one coat of finish coat was applied each of the two days after that. For a slight additional charge, Duane and his employees moved the large pieces of furniture that I couldn’t move. The work was done as cleanly as possible (be prepared, though, for a light coating of dust to be everywhere after the sanding. It’s just unavoidable, and not at all the fault of the installers, who used a very good vacuum system) and all tools and materials were gathered up and neatly placed at the end of each work day. The floors are very pretty, and I would definitely recommend Duane and his company to anyone.

05DEC11: The first contractor we hired got behind on other projects and had a long-term delay. Artisan was available in a reasonable time. Duane, the owner was always punctual for meetings at our home, and showing up for work. He, and his associate completed the project on time and the bill was essentially the estimate. Duane is professional and reliable. This is a non-smoking crew (at least while on the job) and respectful of the property and environment where they are working. Email and phone calls are returned usually the same day or at least the next day. We noticed some craftsman details that were not discussed so they don’t appear to take short cuts. Duane demonstrates pride in his business by the appearance of his vehicles and clean up after work. He comes across as the kind of guy who is eager to be sure of customer satisfaction, and on this job used a few materials that he had at home – saved me a few $$. We are very happy with the installation of our beautiful wood floors and would hire Artisan again.

24OCT11: Recently Duane and team refinished all the hard wood floors on the first floor of my house. My experience with Artisan worked out so well; he returned my phone call quickly, scheduled a site inspection quickly, started and finished the job quickly while I was gone on a business trip. The floors look fantastic and I will definitely have Duane back for future work on other projects. One thing though, while I was expecting the cost of the job what I wasn’t expecting was the hidden cost–my floors look so great I’m now going to have to get some new furniture to match the quality of the floors :). The estimate was emailed within the three days he said it would take. Duane was courteous, answered questions thoroughly, and as he talked about his experience with installing wood floors I became convinced that he was a very qualified contractor (based on my experience with another expensive installation and one room I installed myself). I selected another contractor only because he had done work for me before, gave me a break on the cost, and I have a casual social relationship with him. 27JUN11: We had just completed major plumbing repairs and patching/painting the ceiling which took place over several weeks. The family was very tired of having contractors in and out of the house. We had a family vacation planned over the 2010 4th of July week and really wanted to get the floors refinished. We contacted a number of Angie’s List providers and several non Angie’s List providers. We did not trust any of the other contractors and all of the Angie’ List providers were already booked. However, Duane Dorn with Artisan Floors offered to provide a bid and see what he could do. He told us he was booked, but could meet our deadline if we allowed him to work nights and over the two weekends. Since we were going to be gone, this worked just fine. It is now one year later and the floors still look GREAT!

He used high quality oak flooring and completed the job on schedule. His crew members are all professional as well. They were all extremely courteous. None of them smoked to our knowledge, and they did not have loud music blaring over the sound of their hammers and saws. Duane was on site several days of the six day job. The quality of their workmanship is tremendous, and as a woodworker, I am quite particular. We intend to install hardwood floors in several more rooms and will undoubtedly have Artisan Floor Company do the work.

24MAR11: Duane was very punctual and professional. He and his helper took good care of our home, including masking off cabinets and even the whole living room to prevent dust spreading. We had a bit of an adventure as he attempted to satisfy our wish to lighten the floor (the previous owner had done a DIY job and had made it a very dark color) without going natural. After several stains did not produce the desired effect Duane did a thing that firmly established his integrity. He told us he really couldn’t get a stain on it that he’d be proud to put his name on, and did research which indicated that staining our maple floor was simply not a good thing to try because of the nature of that particular wood. So he put on a clear finish and the floor looks very good. I would recommend Artisan flooring highly.

It is a 101 year old home with approximately 2,500 square feet of Fir flooring which had been covered up with various levels of flooring. We worked hard to uncover the fir and then Duane jumped in. 30DEC10: Artisan refinished the hardwood floors in my home. The hardwoods were covered with carpet and when I tore out the carpet I discovered that the previous homeowners had pet stains, water stains, paint splatters everywhere. I was worried that they were unsalvageable but Duane and crew did a fantastic job. The floors look way better than I ever hoped. I know many friends that have new hardwood floors installed in their house but none of them look anywhere near as beautiful as the 50 year old ones in my house now!

When I called Artisan Floor Company, the person that came to my home was the person that was going to do the work. I was able to speak with him, ask questions, and obtain feedback. He was also able to save me quite a bit of money as he believed that my floors did not need to be sanded and finished, but simply needed to be re-coated. My hardwood floors look new again.
